In my office, I will do an extensive interview (history"), including details of birth, development, all body functions including digestion, dental history, injuries, pregnancy and childbirth, other treatments and tests received. When the patient gets better I teach them how to maintain the improvements and prevent re-injury. Most exercises are easy to do and require minimal equipment. They promote increased body awareness and result in increased energy often in a very short time.
I really like having young patients in my office and explain how important it is to take care of the spine as early as possible. The body is an amazing thing and I am sometimes dismayed how little care and maintenance people put into their body compared to how much money and time people will spend on their cars. Getting regular exercise, particularly when coached by a trained professional, is one of the best ways to prevent injury and keep the body healthy. It is never too late to start, either.
